TETON COUNTY, Idaho — Over $28,000 of stolen tools from multiple construction sites have been recovered and the suspect is in custody following a series of job-site thefts in the region over the past two years.
The suspect in the case is Jackson resident Paul Alexander Shapiro, 33. Shapiro is currently in the custody of the Teton County Sheriff’s Office and being held in the Jefferson County Jail on unrelated criminal charges stemming from a protection order violation.
According to a press release by the Teton County (Idaho) Sheriff’s Office, an investigation into the cases of theft and burglary from trailers and work sites led Sheriffs from Teton County, Fremont County and Madison County, Idaho, to a storage unit where they executed a search warrant and recovered several stolen items including power tools, hand tools, construction materials and personal property.
Shapiro allegedly rented the storage unit under a false name.
“All agencies involved with the joint investigation have been in contact with victims of the thefts to have property returned, but several items suspected of being stolen remain in custody,” states the press release.
Those wishing to inquire about recovering stolen items taken from job sites in east Idaho and western Wyoming within the past two years are asked to email sheriffdocs@tetoncountyidaho.gov and include the date, location and quantity of the items stolen along with the manufacturer, model, serial number, photos, valuation and receipts for their items.
