SUBLETTE COUNTY, Wyo. — Tip Top Search and Rescue was called in to assist Lincoln County SAR after a report of an injured hunter became urgent.
On Wednesday, September 16, Lincoln County SAR requested help with a hunter who had become stranded, standing on a narrow ledge after falling approximately 100 feet down a cliff. The hunter was unsure how long he could hold his position so he had called for help via Inreach personal locating beacon.
The Tip Top SAR short haul team was activated and they were able to fly to the scene and insert a member above the hunter’s position. The SAR member then set an anchor, slowly rappelled down to the hunter as the terrain was difficult to navigate.
The hunter was secured to the rope, placed into a “screamer suit” and both men were extricated via short haul to the valley floor where both a Tip Top EMT and Alpine EMT evaluated the man for injury.
The man was reportedly suffering from mainly exhaustion and dehydration.
