JACKSON HOLE, WYO – An international tourism council has recognized Jackson Hole as one of the Top 100 Sustainable Destinations in the world for the third year in a row. The Riverwind Foundation was notified by Green Destinations that it is recognizing this community’s efforts toward responsible tourism.

The Jackson Hole & Yellowstone Sustainable Destination Program, as well as other community initiatives were evaluated by a panel of experts from 10 leading sustainable tourism organizations and networks based on sustainable tourism standards. Jackson Hole is the only United States destination selected each of the last three years. The official list of Top 100 Sustainable Destinations is expected to be released September 27.
Tim O’Donoghue, Executive Director of the Riverwind Foundation and coordinator of the Jackson Hole & Yellowstone Sustainable Destination Program, said the designation is proof Jackson Hole is on the right track.

“This recognition is further evidence from a highly qualified, prominent council of international tourism industry professionals that Jackson Hole’s sustainability efforts are on the right track toward realizing our vision to be a world-leading sustainable community and destination,” O’Donoghue said. “While we have made significant progress, we have a lot of promising work to do still including the development of a sustainable destination action plan for addressing the impacts of our increasing visitors.”
The Jackson Hole & Yellowstone Sustainable Destination Program is a collaboration coordinated by the Riverwind Foundation and its program partners. It is supported by funding from the Jackson Hole Travel & Tourism Board and the lodging tax, USDA Rural Development, and many individuals, businesses, and organizations who support the community’s environmental, social, and economic sustainability.
