JACKSON HOLE, WYO – It will be years before implemented but improvements and additions to Snow King Mountain are being discussed now. In order to help the community stay involved and have a voice in what you want to see at the Town Hill, authorities at Snow King Mountain Resort have put forth a timeline for the process.
The Town of Jackson (TOJ), US Forest Service (USFS) and Snow King Mountain Resort (SKMR) have been working collaboratively to engage the local community in the process of updating the Snow King Planned Resort District Master Plan.
Snow King entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the town in July 2017 to establish the terms and responsibilities of the all parties. The Town of Jackson agreed to be a cooperating entity and support the USFS beginning its review procedure for the Snow King Forest Service Master Plan.
In addition, the Jackson town council hired a facilitator/consultant and assembled a 16-person stakeholder group (appointed by the TOJ) to discuss the proposals and weigh community benefit. These stakeholders engaged in seven meetings and presented four proposed plans to the TOJ in early May. Meanwhile, SKMR is working to update its Base Area Master Plan and project proposal letter to the Forest Service.
Members of the community at large were also invited to actively participate in the process by attending three open house engagement meetings, submitting public comment to the stakeholder group, and attending a stakeholder meeting to offer public comment.
Moving forward, the community will have additional opportunities to submit public comments and have their voice heard. Beginning in late September, the Jackson Town Council will meet to review the SKMR Base Area Master Plan Amendment and the leases, which are part of the amendment. The USFS will be taking public comments beginning later this summer for projects proposed on USFS land.
Community input will continue to be gathered and weighed as this process continues through the summer and fall. Check out a full calendar referencing important dates regarding the Snow King process with the TOJ and the USFS.
