JACKSON, Wyo. — Southern rock isn’t just reserved for the South. The Lowdown Drifters will make their way to Jackson from Stanwood, Washington, led by the simplistic approach of vocalist/songwriter Big John Cannon and backed by a gritty band with a bio that begins with a the phrase “hung-over and hard up.”
Grandson of a country music songwriter, Cannon is a former trucking company owner that cut his teeth at open mics while long hauling. What has developed since is a couple of albums—2016’s Wood & Water EP and 2019’s Last Call for Dreamers—amongst a handful of singles. Along the way, the band has developed a following with nearly ninety thousand followers on Spotify and opportunities to open for LeAnn Rimes, Jason Boland, and Randy Rogers Band.
The Lowdown Drifters mix classic country with a rock edge and twangy vocals that bring to mind Drive-By Truckers. Give ‘em a Jackson welcome.
The Lowdown Drifters, 6:30-9:30 p.m. Thursday at the Silver Dollar Showroom. Free with limited seating.
