JACKSON, Wyo. — In the spirit of Old Bill’s, local nonprofits are planning a wide variety of remote and virtual celebrations to highlight their individual missions and service areas next week. Old Bill’s “Countdown Week” celebrations will be held September 8-11. The community is invited to follow along with the festivities through social media and at oldbills.org.
The Community Foundation will host random drawings each day, and the lucky nonprofit winners will receive $250:
- Tuesday, September 8 – Sports/Recreation & Arts/Culture
- Wednesday, September 9 – Health & Human Services
- Thursday, September 10 – Education + Civic
- Friday, September 11- Conservation, Environment + Animals
Throughout Countdown Week, Old Bill’s Run Committee volunteers and Community Foundation staff will be spreading cheer with the Frozen Treat Bike, on loan from St. John’s Episcopal Church, sharing free popsicles and ice cream sandwiches with community members at select locations around town (weather permitting; locations to be shared daily on Facebook and Instagram).
Run Day Reimagined – Saturday, September 12
10 a.m. sharp (when the start gun would fire on a “normal” Run Day) – Make Some Noise for Philanthropy!
Community members are invited outside to ring cowbells or bang pots and pans in unison for one minute. This idea mimics the 8pm “community howling” in honor of essential workers that was practiced during the spring.
9:45 – 10:15 a.m. Old Bill’s themed radio program broadcast on 89.1 KHOL and 891khol.org
2-4 p.m. The Frozen Treat Bike will be traveling to parks around town distributing free frozen treats.
VIRTUAL 5K: ANYTIME, ANYWHERE
Community members are encouraged to independently run, walk, hike, or bike 5K anytime and any place on September 12. A variety of 5K route ideas are available for download at oldbills.org. Participants are invited to post their 5K videos and pictures by using the hashtag #oldbills2020 and tagging @cfjacksonhole on Instagram and/or Facebook, or by emailing abradley@cfjacksonhole.org.
VIRTUAL DIAPER DERBY: ANYTIME, ANYWHERE
When the Foundation pushed pause on Run Day this year, we couldn’t bear to say goodbye to the Diaper Derby! We hope to preserve this beloved tradition in 2020 by asking parents to video their non-walking babies crawling the short-distance “course” of their choice. Babies should be unassisted but may certainly be baited by shiny objects or delicious treats. Parents are invited to post their Diaper Derby videos and pictures by using the hashtag #oldbills2020 and tagging @cfjacksonhole on Instagram and/or Facebook, or by emailing abradley@cfjacksonhole.org.
This year, widespread community participation in Old Bill’s is more critical than ever before. Local nonprofits are going to great lengths to continue to fulfill their missions under extremely challenging circumstances. Gifts are accepted between August 1–September 18, 2020 at 5 p.m. For more information, visit oldbills.org.
