WILSON, Wyo. — Local fire-fighting units were mobilized in the wee hours Monday morning to respond to a structure fire at Teton Pines Country Club.
Emergency page-outs began around 3:20 a.m. Bystanders called 911 reporting a possible gas cloud at the Teton Pines clubhouse. When crews arrived at the scene, they recognized the issue was not in the clubhouse and instead turned their attention to the building across the street, according to Jackson Hole Fire/EMS Battalion Chief Chris Stiehl.
“The fire was all interior and was pretty well-hidden from the first arriving units,” Stiehl told Buckrail. “They didn’t pull up and see an obvious fire burning through the roof situation.”
The building in question was an unoccupied two-story office building, according to the Jackson Hole News&Guide. The flames caused the collapse of the roof and internal floors. Stiehl confirmed that one firefighter sustained a leg injury while battling the fire and was transported to St. John’s for treatment.
The team was still extinguishing hotspots as of 10:45 a.m. State fire investigators were on the scene. Stiehl noted that the construction of the building’s cold roof system made the fire particularly difficult to beat.
Teton Pines resident Jonathan Summer told Buckrail he woke up to multiple messages from friends and neighbors who saw smoke. When he stepped outside, he found multiple trucks and a large team of firefighters.
“I understand that new fire hydrants were recently installed as part of the Pines Overlook development,” Summer said in an email to Buckrail. “I was surprised how long it took to control the blaze given how much water was flowing into the building. There is a parking lot under the building that looked completely flooded. I’m just glad that it wasn’t windy this morning, or the situation could have been much worse. I’m incredibly grateful to all of the firefighters and my heart goes out to the owners and tenants of the building.”

This is a developing story. Buckrail will provide updates as information becomes available.
