WILSON, Wyo. — Teton Pass will open to trailer traffic on Monday, ending the seasonal restriction that began on November 15, 2023.

The pass will be open to trailer traffic, conditions dependent.

Trucks and trailers are permitted to use Teton Pass if they are under 60,000 pounds gross vehicle weight. The Wyoming Department of Transportation warns that Teton Pass is extremely dangerous for overweight trucks, noting that “grade steepness, grade length and curve severity can cause trucks to lose control.”

When conditions are hazardous, chain laws go into effect. In Wyoming, penalties for failing to follow chain laws can result in a $250 fine or a $750 fine for violations that result in a road closure.

Trucks can use alternate routes around Teton Pass. The most frequently used alternative route from Idaho is through Idaho’s Swan Valley, to Wyoming’s Hoback Junction on Wyoming Highway 26/89.
