JACKSON, Wyo. — Heads up! Teton County outdoor warning sirens are scheduled for testing on Thursday. Be prepared to hear the sirens briefly at some point between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. with a one-minute, all-siren test scheduled for noon.

The warning sirens are a component of Teton County’s all-hazard public alert and warning system, and are designed to warn people who are outside that something is wrong. Sirens might not be heard if a person is indoors, so they shouldn’t be relied upon for warnings while inside a building.

There are seven outdoor warning sirens in Teton County: Teton Village on the aerial tram tower 1; Fire Station 6 in Teton Pines; Owen Bircher Park in downtown Wilson; Fire Station 1 on Pearl Street in Jackson; the school bus barn on Gregory Lane; Fire Station 7 at Adams Canyon south of town; and Hoback Junction.

A longer, three-minute siren would signal that the public should check cell phones, local radio or trusted online media to identify the alert and actions required. Those interested in more information regarding the outdoor warning sirens can explore the Teton County website here.
