DRIGGS, Idaho — Teton County Sheriff’s Office Idaho (TCSO) is warning the public of a local phone scam that could seem legitimate.
Officials say that residents should keep an eye out for an automated message from a 208 area code number stating “your Rocky Mountain Power bill is going to be cut off in 30 minutes if you don’t bring your account balance to zero.”
From there, the call is then transferred to a person. The person on the other line then advises again that your account balance is past due and needs to be paid in order to avoid your service being shut off.
TCSO says that the originator of the call will disconnect when further questioned why their account was past due and will be unable to verify the correct electric company with the reporting party.
If residents receive a call similar to this, TCSO urges the public to not give them payment information from an unknown and unverified number. Officials add that residents should pay attention to the business name being given versus who you actually have service through. Disconnect any call received and call a trusted number with your current provider to confirm your account information or check your online account to access payment or balance information.
