JACKSON, Wyo. — Jackson Hole Fire/EMS and the Teton Area Wildfire Protection Coalition invite the public to a Community Protection Wildfire Plan (CWPP) presentation and discussion to help prioritize solutions for wildfire management in the valley.
Residents have the opportunity to take part in the discussion on Thursday, Oct. 3 at 12 or 5 p.m. at the Teton County Commissioner’s Chambers located at 200 S. Willow Street. Updates to the CWPP will be created by the community, in collaboration with emergency responders, planners and land management agencies.
“Your participation will help implement a planning tool that will shape future wildfire mitigation programs,” Teton County said online. “Let’s work together to keep our families, our homes, our firefighters and our ecosystem safe.”
According to Teton County, Jackson Hole has a high risk of wildfire, higher than 84% of communities in the United States. The plan’s revision process will identify areas for fuel reduction treatments, protection methods and measures to reduce structural ignitability. First responders will be evaluating wildfire response, overall community preparedness and wildfire risk. Additionally, the plan will propose changes to the Wildland Urban Interface, which maps the connection between forest areas and homes.
During both CWPP presentations and discussions, there will be a raffle and light refreshments.
