JACKSON, Wyo. — Teton County Library Board voted at its May meeting to approve summer hours at the Jackson Library, going into effect beginning the week of Sunday, May 28.

The decision was made based on data collected during two studies by staff that show hour-by-hour use of the space.

The Library’s summer hours will be:

  • Monday – Thursday: 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Friday and Saturday: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Sunday: Closed for the summer until Sept. 10

The total hours of operation per week will be 56.

Following Sept. 4, the Library will once again open on Sundays and add another hour to Friday evenings to accommodate families whose children are at the Library for after school time.

The Library added later evening hours at the beginning of the year in response to survey and retreat comments from the community. However, data showed that patrons did not utilize those later hours.

In his report to the Board, Library Director Kip Roberson said that data collected by staff shows almost no patron interactions with staff in the 7 to 8 p.m. hour, and very few people visiting the building at that time.

“Being open until 8:00 is not cost effective from an operational perspective,” said Roberson.

Alta Branch Library remains open Tuesday and Thursday from 12 to 6 p.m., Wednesday from 12 to 7 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is closed Sunday and Monday.
