JACKSON, Wyo. — On Sunday, Jan. 26, Idaho’s Teton County Fire & Rescue (TCFR) reported a fire incident off Highway 33 in Victor.

According to a Facebook post, TCFR received a call from a passerby on Highway 33 at approximately 3:35 a.m. reporting a possible fire on the hillside. Crews from Station 1 and Station 2 responded to the area.

“A large glow could be seen from the Valley up near the Shooting Star subdivision,” TCFR writes. “Firefighters made their way up the narrow, steep, snow-covered road. Upon arrival, they found a 30’ by 40’ out building/shop fully engulfed in flames.”

At the time, TCFR confirms no one was home at the primary residence and no other structures were threatened.

While the fire was contained, TCFR writes that it posed numerous challenges for firefighters: no available water source, steep and narrow roads with tight switchbacks, slippery driving conditions for large fire vehicles, deep winter snow pack around the building and below zero temperatures.

Even during the winter, residents should never dismiss fire risk and should keep fire hydrants clear in case of emergencies.
