JACKSON, Wyo. — The Teton Behavioral Health Alliance, an Initiative of the Community Foundation of Jackson Hole, is proud to launch the Mental Health Awareness Month Community Calendar in conjunction with Mental Health Awareness Month. The Calendar is a collaborative effort that connects the community to local events, resources and opportunities in an effort to improve well-being in the community.

Held each May, Mental Health Awareness Month encourages open conversations about emotional well-being and promotes education, support and access to care. Data from the 2024 Community Behavioral Health Survey shows that this community faces high rates of stigma, poor mental health and substance use. About one-third of respondents (34%) said they believe it’s hard for people in this community to talk about emotional struggles. On average, respondents reported experiencing poor mental health 7.6 days each month in 2024, up from 6.8 days in 2021 — an 11% increase. More than 40% of people said that substance use had a negative impact on their lives — either personally or through someone they know.

The Community Calendar features over 25 local organizations and provides 35 opportunities for community members to engage in mental health-focused activities throughout May. Events range from educational workshops and support groups to mindfulness sessions and wellness activities, ensuring that individuals have multiple ways to participate.

“We want everyone in our community to know they’re not alone and that support is available,” said Kate Schelbe, Backbone Leader of the Teton Behavioral Health Alliance. “Our hope is that this calendar makes it easier for individuals to participate in events that promote well-being as well as find the help they need.”

The Mental Health Awareness Month Community Calendar will be available online and widely promoted throughout the community. By making mental health resources more accessible, the Alliance aims to foster a culture of openness, support and proactive care.
