JACKSON, Wyo. — At their May 6 meeting, the Jackson Town Council recognized Teacher Appreciation Week, running nationally from May 6 through May 10.
Town Councilmember Jim Rooks asked for people to think of their favorite teacher as he read the proclamation.
“Our local community recognizes that teachers and support staff provide essential educational, social and emotional health and safety, and nutritional services to students in Pre-K through Grade 12,” Rooks said.
Rooks also noted that “strong teacher and student relationships significantly impact student engagement and achievement and have a lasting impact on students’ lives that extend well beyond their elementary and secondary school years.”
Mayor Hailey Morton Levinson also shared her appreciation for all of Jackson’s teachers for their continued dedication to the community’s youth.
The proclamation notes that educators’ commitment to students goes beyond the school day, as many school employees serve as coaches, mentors, role models and trusted confidants to students. Educators also work as partners with families by helping to navigate the unavoidable challenges of raising and educating children.
Teton County School District (TCSD) #1 employed a total of 571 community members, with 308 of those employees as teachers/educators, in 2023. Ten schools make up the district: Alta Elementary, Colter Elementary, Jackson Elementary, Kelly Elementary, Wilson Elementary, Moran Elementary, Munger Mountain Elementary, Jackson Hole Middle School, Jackson Hole High School and Summit Innovations School.
A number of private schools also operate in Jackson including Jackson Hole Community School, Jackson Hole Classical Academy, the Montessori School of the Tetons and Teton Science Schools.
