JACKSON, Wyo. — Teton County School District #1 (TCSD) has announced the resignation of Superintendent of Schools Gillian Chapman, effective June 30.

Chapman has helmed the district since 2015. In 2022, she was named Wyoming’s Superintendent of the Year by the Wyoming Association of School Administrators. According to the announcement, she is departing the position to accommodate a move out of state.

“While the district will miss Gillian’s leadership, vision and commitment to our students and staff, we wish her well as she transitions into a new superintendent position in Kansas, which will allow her to be closer to her family,” TCSD Board of Trustees Chairperson Betsy Carlin said in the announcement. “We wish her the very best in her new position.”

TCSD’s announcement praised Chapman’s leadership in her decade in the role, saying she led efforts to make the district “the best in the state” in her pursuit of state and local funding, in her work toward addressing facility needs and creating employee housing and in her mentorship of faculty and staff. During her tenure, two TCSD employees were named Principal or Assistant Principal of the Year, and two teachers were named Milken Award winners, per the district.

“She engaged the district in various state and national programs that challenged our staff to think innovatively about how we educate students and mentor teachers,” the announcement reads. “… She was unwavering in her efforts to close the achievement gap to ensure the District’s mission to ensure all students have the foundation for success and are challenged to reach their full potential.”

TCSD’s Board of Trustees is expected to determine a hiring plan “within the next 30 days,” per the district.
