WILSON, Wyo. — Teton County Search and Rescue (TCSAR) was called upon to rescue an injured skier from Mount Glory’s Shovel Slide on Saturday, Dec. 9, the agency announced via Facebook, calling the incident “a cautionary tale about early season snow conditions.”

According to TCSAR, a local woman hurt herself when her leg “clipped a rock” under the snow as she skied down the slope, leading to “a serious injury.”

TCSAR responded with its helicopter, dropping two team members onto the Glory ridge so they could ski down to the injured woman. The skier was placed in an enclosed litter (a transportable stretcher) that was short-hauled by the helicopter to the auxiliary lot on Teton Pass, where she was transferred to a Jackson Hole Fire/EMS ambulance. The mission took a total of 2 hours and 39 minutes, TCSAR said.

“This incident serves as a reminder that our backcountry snowpack is still at low tide, with obstacles lurking on or just beneath the snow surface,” TCSAR posted on Facebook. “Be careful out there and light on your skis.”
