JACKSON, Wyo. — Teton County Search and Rescue (TCSAR) shared news on its Facebook page of the successful rescue of a bicyclist who was injured near Game Creek last week.
TCSAR was mobilized on Friday, Aug. 25, by a call from three mountain bikers who found a cyclist face-down in the bushes on Game Creek trail. The cyclist, a local man in his 70s, was conscious and was still clipped into his bicycle pedals when found. He reported severe pain in multiple locations, according to TCSAR. One of the mountain bikers cycled away to find cell service, and made a call to 911.
Volunteers from TCSAR arrived at the trailhead with two e-mountain bikes and a RZR vehicle (a utility terrain vehicle). The RZR continued up the dirt road as far as possible, and then two volunteers rode e-bikes the rest of the way to the patient. Two additional volunteers hiked to the patient carrying a “suck bag” (an inflatable full-body splint) and a wheeled litter.
TCSAR assessed the injured cyclist’s status and used the wheeled litter to get him to the RZR and then to the trailhead, where he was transferred to a waiting Jackson Hole Fire/EMS ambulance. A Teton County Sheriff Deputy accompanied the volunteers and assisted in the rescue.
“The team wishes to thank the three mountain bikers who reported the incident for their assistance and care for the patient until the volunteers could arrive,” TCSAR said. “Please note that e-mountain bikes are prohibited in the Greater Snow King area, which includes Game Creek, and are only used by first-responders during an emergency.”
