JACKSON HOLE, WYO \u2013 Authorities in Yellowstone National Park are searching for a lost hiker near the north entrance of the park. Jeff Murphy, 53, of Batavia, Illinois, headed into the Rescue Creek trailhead around 8am on Wednesday for an intended day hike to Turkey Pen Peak. He did not return. Murphy is 5' 11" tall, 190 pounds. He may be wearing khaki pants, a yellow t-shirt, navy pullover, a green and gray rain jacket, and an army green backpack. Search and rescue efforts are underway both on the ground and in the air. Rescue Creek trail is closed to the public until further notice while the search is\u00a0ongoing. Any information concerning the lost hiker\u2019s whereabouts should be directed to (307) 344-2643. Rescue Creek is named for Yellowstone's most famous lost soul\u2014Truman Everts\u2014who was found near death but alive in the general area of the creek\u00a0after spending 37 days separated from his party during the Washburn Expedition of 1870. He was 54 years old at the time.
