JACKSON, Wyo. — Teton County’s goal is to reach 60% waste diversion from the landfill by the year 2030. The only way to reach that goal is to do it together, by learning how to produce less waste through purchasing practices, recycling and composting.
In Teton County, as in other communities with the goal of zero waste, it’s important to understand that “zero” is an ideal. Achieving this ideal involves incremental goals with measurable targets.
The Teton County Road to Zero Waste Plan identifies the initial goal of 60% waste diversion from landfill or incineration by the year 2030, which will be a 26% increase from the current diversion rate of 34%.
As technologies develop and processes evolve, the ability to achieve 100 percent diversion, or true zero, will become more possible.
Education and outreach is critical to the Road to Zero Waste program. Donations through Old Bill’s Reimagined for Jackson Community Recycling (Teton County ISWR) are specifically allocated to education and outreach purposes..
