WILSON, Wyo. — To recognize National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, the Community Prevention Coalition of Teton County invites the community to participate in the fourth annual Stride Against Suicide community walk this Saturday in R Park.
The event, scheduled for 10 a.m., is free and open to all, regardless of personal connections to suicide loss. Wyoming’s suicide rate is consistently among the highest in the country.
“By coming together, we unite to build connection and belonging, destigmatize mental health challenges, and demonstrate that no one walks alone in our valley,” the event announcement states.
Participants (and leashed dogs) can enjoy free food, music, info booths and creative activities. Local mental health resources will be on the scene providing tips for supporting friends and family who might be struggling. A Remembrance Tree will offer the opportunity to honor the lives of those lost to suicide; event attendees can bring a remembrance token of a loved one, and stationery supplies will be available for hanging messages on the tree. After the event, the tree will be relocated to the Center for the Arts for display.
If you or someone you know is struggling, support is available. Call or text 988 for free, confidential support, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Not comfortable talking on the phone? Chat with the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline at 988lifeline.org/chat. Free mental health and wellness resources are also available at teton.crediblemind.com.
