JACKSON, Wyo. — The Teton County (Idaho) Sheriff’s Office (TCSO) has shared news of a high-speed stolen vehicle pursuit that stopped traffic for Teton Pass commuters on Wednesday morning.

According to TCSO, one of its deputies located a stolen vehicle traveling eastbound on Highway 33 east of Tetonia around 8:35 a.m. on Wednesday morning. The vehicle was observed to be driving at “an extremely high rate of speed and passing on a double yellow,” per the announcement. The deputy then pursued the speeding car, turning on his cruiser’s lights and attempting to stop the vehicle.

The pursued driver continued driving quickly “in a reckless manner,” refusing to stop, TCSO said. The driver sped through Driggs and Victor, at one point colliding with a pickup truck near Cedron Road. The chase continued onto the Teton Pass. The car crashed into a guardrail on WY22 near Wilson.

“Wyoming authorities were quickly on scene and took the male driver into custody,” TCSO said. The driver faces criminal charges in Teton County, Idaho, which will be filed through the Teton County Prosecutor’s Office.

No injuries were reported. TCSO noted that the pickup truck driver who was struck did not request medical assistance.

The incident caused traffic on the Teton Pass to come to a standstill during commuting hours while the driver was apprehended. Several additional vehicles were hit by the stolen vehicle on the pass, according to the Jackson Hole News&Guide. Any vehicle owners who were hit on the pass this morning are directed to contact the Teton County (Wyoming) Sheriff’s Office dispatch via the non-emergency line: 307-733-2331.
