JACKSON, Wyo. — Following an intense Budget Session in Cheyenne, State Rep. Mike Yin has announced that he will seek another two-year term representing House District 16.
Yin has held the position for the past eight years. The Democrat serves as the Wyoming House Minority Floor Leader. His precincts include east Jackson, mid-Jackson and west Jackson (Cottonwood Park). He grew up in Atlanta, Georgia.
“It has been the honor of my life to serve this community for the last eight years,” Yin said in his campaign announcement. “Every two years, I come back to the same driving principle: making Wyoming a place where you can grow up, find opportunity, raise a family if you choose, and have your kids settle here too. That hasn’t changed, and neither has the work.”
Yin is the first Chinese American to serve in the Wyoming legislature. He was named on the Wyoming Chamber of Commerce’s Inaugural Forty Under 40 list.
“The legislative session this last year highlighted how dysfunctional politics has become,” Yin said. “We spent a lot of time putting the Freedom Caucus’s broken budget back together. We have a chance to do better this next session, and it will take a legislature willing to right the ship. I would like to keep being part of that work for you.”
The primary election will be held on Aug. 18
