JACKSON, Wyo. — Starting today, Sept. 8, START is launching a service dubbed “vanpool,” which is a new alternative for commuters designed to expand options for residents to get around the valley. The program is launched in partnership with Enterprise and intended to fill transit service gaps and reduce traffic congestion.

The service will allow riders and organizers to organize commuter groups to travel to and from Jackson to work. Commuters can choose among rentals including SUVs, minivans, crossovers and large passenger vans, and each rider will pay a portion of the total cost to cover gas, insurance, maintenance and repair-related expenses.

Routes must start or end in the following areas, according to the Town of Jackson website:

  • Star Valley, WY: Alpine, Etna, Thayne or Afton
  • Sublette County, WY
  • Teton County, ID
  • Idaho Falls, ID
  • Rexburg, ID
  • Rigby, ID

“START is thrilled to launch its Vanpool service as a new option for commuters,” said Transit Director Mike Toronto in a press release. “Vanpools are a great compliment to START’s other services, providing convenient, efficient ways for small groups to commute between home and work.”

Eligible parties could receive up to $700 per vanpool from START monthly. Those interested in learning more or starting a vanpool can do so on the Enterprise website here.
