START still operating, granted authority to make quicker decisions on scheduling

JACKSON, Wyo. — START Bus has received authority to make scheduling changes without going through the usual process of coming to the town council and board of county commissioners for approval.

In a rapidly changing environment, START director Darren Brugmann says his department needs the ability to make appropriate changes to service levels in response to cancelations and closures. These decisions could include authority to control, maintain, manage, operate, and regulate, including routing and scheduling of bus services, and establishing fares.

Brugmann cited as an example Jackson Hole Mountain Resort ceasing operation and the dramatically reduced need for bus runs to the Village. Previously, the run to the Village was to be reduced beginning April 12.

START now needs an agreement and approval only from Brugmann and town manager Larry Pardee.

Currently, all scheduled commuter runs, town shuttle, and ADA service are being provided as normal. These services will continue to be evaluated as the COVID-19 situation evolves.

START is directing its employees and bus drivers to remain at home if sick, and is asking members of the public to not ride if they are experiencing any respiratory illness symptoms such as fever, cough, or shortness of breath.

The START Bus Transit System will transition from the Winter service schedule to the Spring service schedule beginning Thursday, March 19, 2020. This early transition to the Spring service schedule is a result of recent closures to local ski resorts and is an additional proactive measure to help mitigate exposure to COVID-19.

Beginning Thursday, March 19, 2020, START’s services will transition to the Spring service schedule as follows:
