Staffing issues at Rec Center and Library prompt reduced hours

JACKSON, Wyo. — Staffing issues in Jackson Hole are being felt at the Rec Center and the Teton County Library.

Both the Rec Center and the Library announced today that they will close on Sundays until staff positions are filled.

“The library’s management team has been carefully tracking our public desk staffing around five existing vacancies, along with two new vacancies expected in June,” said Deb Adams, Library Interim Director. “We’ve been trying to hire for Youth Services vacancies since March and will be advertising for Adult Services positions starting next week, during an extremely competitive local job market. Closing Sundays is the least impactful choice because service was already limited to item pickup, and it has tended throughout the library’s history to be the least trafficked day of the week.”

According to the Library, the Board and staff will review the temporary hours suspension after two months to determine if staffing levels at that time allow for reintroducing Sunday hours.

The Rec Center will reduce Monday through Friday hours as well, closing at 6 p.m., rather than 8 p.m. Hours of operation on Saturdays will not be affected. The new operations will begin on June 1.

In a press release sent today, May 26, Jackson/Teton County Parks and Rec stated, “We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate the community’s patience as we continue to recruit staff to join our team. Our plan is to return to normal service levels once additional staff is hired and trained.”

The Teton County Library Board approved the discontinuation of Sunday hours during a meeting today, May 26. The closure is effective June 13.
