JACKSON, Wyo. — Special Olympics Wyoming (SOWY) announced that more than 350 athletes, coaches, families and cheerleaders from all over the Cowboy State are training and getting ready for the 2025 State Winter Games taking place in Jackson from Tuesday, Feb. 25, to Thursday, Feb. 27.
SOWY encouraged the public to attend the winter games, one of the state’s four sport competitions. The athletes will be competing in categories of Alpine Skiing, Snowboarding, Snowshoeing and Cross-Country Skiing.
In the announcement, SOWY quoted the Special Olympics Athlete Oath: “Let me win. But if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt.”
The games will be hosted at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, Jackson Hole High School (JHHS), the fields by Summit Innovations School, Snow King Resort and the Elks Lodge #1713.
Competition Locations:
- Alpine Skiing – Jackson Hole Mountain Resort
- Snowboarding – Jackson Hole Mountain Resort
- Cross-Country Skiing – Fields by Summit Innovations School
- Snowshoeing – Fields by Summit Innovations School
Competition Times:
- Wednesday – 10 a.m. time trials, 1 p.m. competition starts
- Thursday – 9:30 a.m. competition starts, 1 p.m. competition resumes
The Jackson leg of the Law Enforcement Torch Run will begin on Tuesday Feb. 25, at approximately 2 p.m., ending at approximately 2:30 p.m. at the Jackson Hole Town Square.
“Wyoming law enforcement personnel will escort delegations into the Opening Ceremony and light the Flame of Hope, which symbolizes courage and celebrates diversity,” SOWY said via press release.
According to SOWY, local, county, state and federal agencies have been carrying the Flame of Hope during different legs of the Law Enforcement Torch Run to raise awareness and funds for Special Olympics Wyoming athletes. The route map will be added to the event site before the Torch Run. During the competition, Wyoming law enforcement will also present medals following each final competition’s conclusion.
Opening Ceremony and the Parade of Athletes will take place at JHHS on Tuesday, Feb. 25, at 7:15 p.m.
“The Opening Ceremony is where all the athletes, Unified Sports partners, coaches and volunteers will gather to introduce the competing teams, recite the coach, official and athlete oaths and share some inspiring words,” SOWY said.
