JACKSON, Wyo. — Those with a keen eye could have already noticed a new piece installed at the ArtSpot on Broadway.

According to a Tuesday press release from Jackson Hole Public Art, the piece titled “Abre Tus Alas” (“Open Your Wings”) was created by students in Jackson Hole High School’s Spanish and Culture class taught by Gabriel Lopez. South Park Metalworks assisted in the production of the project.

JH Public Art states that the installation, made up of individually designed flying geese, represents the journey that graduating students make when moving beyond the classroom and toward new destinations. The art piece takes inspiration from “alebrijes,” traditional Mexican folk-art sculptures known for vibrant colors and forms.

“Each piece reflects students’ growth, courage and determination to pursue their dreams,” reads the news release. “The work celebrates new beginnings and the endless possibilities ahead, while acknowledging that — like the geese depicted — many will one day return home carrying new experiences and hard-earned wisdom.”

The announcement states that over 30,000 drivers pass the ArtSpot on Broadway daily, which elevates the visibility of work by local artists.
