Snowmobiler buried, killed in Palisades avalanche

IDAHO – Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office and Bonneville County Search and Rescue responded today to the report of a snowmobiler buried in an avalanche in the upper bowl of Sheep Creek about six miles from the trailhead. The call came in at 4:06pm this afternoon.

The snowmobiler’s identity has not been released pending notification of family. He is being described only as an adult male.

Friends were able to locate and dig free the man fairly quickly but he was unresponsive.

Deputies, along with Search and Rescue, will be working through the night to bring the man’s body out of Sheep Creek. Sheep Creek is located directly east of Palisades Reservoir.

UPDATE (Feb. 21, 1pm): The name of the victim in yesterday’s avalanche is Troy Leishman, 47, of Idaho Falls.
