JACKSON, Wyo. — For ski resorts in the valley, warm and dry weather patterns have put a damper on the beginning of the 2021/22 winter season. Less than ideal conditions have delayed resort openings and limited operations.
For Jackson’s Snow King Mountain, this has been just the case.
The mountain originally planned to open for the season on Dec. 4, 2021, but evening temperatures have not allowed for successful snowmaking to take place. Despite the setback, the mountain announced today that it would open with limited operations this upcoming weekend, Dec. 11, 2021.
“Warm, dry weather has pushed back our planned opening day to Dec. 11. Our snowmaking crew has been stumped at night trying to make snow at marginal temperatures, but it is finally turning to winter in Jackson Hole!,” said Snow King Mountain in a statement today.
On Saturday, the Magic Carpet will be open for lessons at the base of the mountain and SK anticipates it will open the Cougar Lift soon thereafter.
In the meantime, the Cowboy Coaster is now open daily for the winter season from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
“With the lack of snow, we are opening the Cowboy Coaster early for the winter season. We will be blowing snow like crazy to open the Tube Park ASAP and plan to have it open before the holidays.”
