JACKSON, Wyo. — Over 200 alpine athletes from across the Intermountain West are competing at Snow King Mountain from Monday, Dec. 18 to Thursday, Dec. 21 for the Sean Nurse Memorial Race in commemoration of Jackson high school student, Sean Nurse.
According to the Jackson Hole Ski & Snowboard Club (JHSC), Nurse grew up skiing in Jackson and his friends say that he was outgoing, charismatic and always easy to talk to. Nurse excelled as a high performing multi-sport athlete, and in the classroom he carried a 4.0 and was headed to ski race for Dartmouth College. This race celebrates his life and honors his spirit, a talented alpine skier who died by suicide in 1990.
“Sean loved the competition, the camaraderie and the sportsmanship of ski racing. Best of all, he loved the slalom.”

For the first time, JHSC is hosting several mental health organizations throughout the week to share information on mental health and suicide prevention. The mental health resource tables are free to the public and available from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Lodge Room at the base of Snow King Mountain Resort.
Participating organizations include Community Prevention Coalition of Teton County, Jackson Hole High School/Summit Innovations School Nurse Beth Shidner, Mental Health and Recovery Services, Mental Wellness Collaborative, Teton County Health Department and Teton Youth and Family Services.
“We are hoping that by having mental wellness resources available, our ski racing community will remember that support is available, through friends, family or mental health professionals,” JHSC said via press release. “Please remember, you are not alone and seeking help is a sign of strength.”
Race results for all the U14-U18 alpine racers can be found at Live-Timing.
