TETON VILLAGE, Wyo. — Locals witnessed some serious speed at the Jackson Hole Downhill this past weekend.

The Jackson Hole Ski & Snowboard Club (JHSC) has hosted the event since 1982. The FCExcavation Jackson Hole Downhill is one of the last open, non-sanctioned community downhill races in the country. In 2020, JHSC, in collaboration with Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, redesigned the local event to be a high-powered race featuring skiers and snowboarders ages 12 and up, as well as current and former World Cup racers.

“We had an excellent weekend, it’s such a great opportunity for alpine ski racers to come together and celebrate alpine skiing, local history and go fast,” JHSC Executive Director Ali Sehnert told Buckrail.

On Saturday and Sunday, spectators enjoyed the sunny skies and caught glimpses of skiers and snowboarders carving high speed turns on JHMR’s Crags-to-Moran racecourse, off of Teton Lift.
“We had 11 incredible pro skiers, who were former World Cup athletes, and the local junior kids skied incredibly well,” Sehnert said.

During the community race on Saturday, participants could compete in up to two of the following categories: Amateur, Snowboard, Telemark and “Fat & Baggy,” where a racer’s clothes must flap in the wind and skis must be at least 100mm underfoot. Sunday featured a Junior Race II followed by the Pro Race.
