SUBLETTE COUNTY, WYO – Sublette County Unified Fire (SCUF) just wrapped Week 16 of the 2018 recruit academy.

Last weekend’s ‘practical day’ brought 11 recruits together at the SCUF training facility for stations covering ventilation (vertical, horizontal, mechanical and hydraulic), hose lays and deployments with fire apparatus, ladder operations, and water supply.
Successful recruits who complete the academy earn certifications in structure and wildland firefighting and Hazardous Materials Operations. Past Academies have varied in size from 15 to 30+ recruits.
This year’s academy nears completion with only four chapters of book work remaining and concludes with a “Live Fire” practical’s day on June 30, when recruits will be introduced for the first time to a live fire entry into the burn building.
Some 20 weeks of studying and multiple practical weekends will come to an end with this “live fire” scenario and test the recruits knowledge and understanding of fire behavior and practical applications of what they have learned.
