GRAND TETON NATIONAL PARK — The Murie Residence within Grand Teton National Park is the stuff of Pinterest boards: beautiful wooden interiors, antique quilts, vintage enamelware, old snowshoes and so much more.

Buckrail photographer Nick Sulzer stepped inside the historic cabin on a recent visit to the Murie Ranch, where naturalists Mardy and Olaus Murie lived while pursuing their conservation work in the 1940s, ’50s and ’60s. The Muries were instrumental in ensuring protection for wild species and supporting the passage of the Wilderness Act in 1964.

Park docents can often be found sitting on the porch of the residence, ready to answer visitor questions. The ranch was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1990 and declared a National Historic Landmark in 2006, according to the National Park Service.

The cabins are located near the Craig Thomas Discovery and Visitor Center in Moose, and the interiors are occasionally open for guided tours. The ranch is home to Teton Science Schools programming during the summer.
