JACKSON, Wyo. — How’s the water today?
Buckrail photographer Nick Sulzer caught a glimpse of a mother moose and her calf cooling off their hooves in a pond outside of Grand Teton National Park earlier this week.

And check out the ears on this pair. Moose have excellent control over their ears, which can rotate to better listen for danger. One 2008 study posited that the palmated shape of moose antlers can improve their hearing by serving as a “parabolic reflector of sounds.”

Remember to give moose plenty of space. Stay at least 25 yards away, especially from a parent moose with a calf; they can be extra territorial.
