YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK — Get a look at this!
National Park Service photographer Jacob W. Frank snapped this shot of a gargantuan-looking moon rising over Mammoth Hot Springs in Yellowstone National Park (YNP). The park shared it to its Flickr page this month.
The photo captures the phenomenon known as the “horizon effect” or the “moon illusion,” a psychological occurrence in which the moon’s proximity to the horizon makes it appear larger in size.
