JACKSON, Wyo. — Fainter colors were visible in the skies over Jackson Hole on Wednesday night following a show-stopping northern lights appearance the night before.

Buckrail photographer Nick Sulzer snapped these photos of the muted hues sparkling over Jackson Lake near Signal Mountain.

Tuesday night’s vibrant display was the result of a G4 geomagnetic storm, considered “severe” by NOAA’s Space Weather Prediction Center. Wednesday night’s G3 storm level was “strong.”

The aurora has been active this week following coronal mass ejections, large expulsions of plasma and magnetic field from the sun.
