YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK — If April showers bring May flowers, what does May snowfall bring?
Yellowstone National Park (YNP) visitors were treated to some late-season snowfall on Monday, May 5. The park’s Old Faithful webcam was broadcasting this snowy scene just before 3 p.m. on Monday afternoon.
According to GeyserTimes.Org, a citizen science hub that logs geyser eruptions in the park, Old Faithful had erupted around 2:45 p.m. that afternoon. The steam rising from the cone blends in with the new snow.
Observing the geyser via the webcam during its 11:46 a.m. eruption on Tuesday, May 6, it’s clear that much of last night’s snow has already melted, and blue skies have returned.

National Weather Service records indicate that temperatures dipped below 30 degrees on Monday evening. Clear skies and warmer temps are in the forecast for the rest of the week, with a potential high of 70 degrees on Saturday, May 10. This is a far cry from deep winter in the park; in January, temps at Old Faithful hit -40 degrees.
