JACKSON HOLE, WYO – This is what happens when a threat is received by school authorities. Wednesday’s walkout at the high school was overshadowed by a bomb threat made on the Jackson Hole Middle School. Some two dozens trained professionals combed the building and grounds looking for a potential explosive. None was found.
These hoaxes are troublesome, expensive, and just plain stupid. Teton School District 401 in Teton Valley did away with its dedicated anonymous tipline for threats because it was being consistently abused.
It’s important to be vigilant about noticing that despondent someone who may be contemplating acting out in a potentially horrible or deadly manner. But fraudulent claims of bombs or shootings have become all-too commonplace across the country. It has to stop.
