JACKSON, Wyo. — Snow in June?! It’s not that crazy.

A dusting of snow frosted the Tetons over the weekend and Buckrail photographer Nick Sulzer captured the extraordinary scene on Saturday morning when the clouds parted. The valley floor has been spared from the blizzard, with precipitation falling as rain over the weekend.

Though rare, it’s not unheard of for higher elevations surrounding the valley to receive some frozen precipitation in June. Despite the warm summer temperatures experienced earlier in the month, June is still often viewed as an unpredictable weather month — sometimes bringing a barrage of rain and spring temps, but also known for delivering a scattered snow shower or two.

In June 2024, Buckrail meteorologist detailed snowfall in Jackson in June, but the snow did not accumulate. In both 2018 and 2019, snow was recorded in the mountains in June. Stay warm out there, folks! Regularly scheduled summer temperatures are expected to return by the Fourth of July weekend.
