WILSON, Wyo. — Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) construction crews spotted a lone grizzly bear walking along the river bank underneath the Snake River Bridge in the early hours of Wednesday, May 14.
“Construction crews had a special visitor at the Wilson Snake River Bridge this morning!” WYDOT wrote on Facebook.
According to WYDOT, the grizzly bear crossed the river to the west side, south of the bridge, and then used the wildlife structure west of the Snake River to continue north.
Starting in 2022, a series of “wildlife ramps” were constructed along the Snake River Levee. According to Teton Conservation District (TCD), 15 ramps were built in 2023, bringing the total to 24 ramps located north and south of the Wilson Bridge over the Snake River.
“These ramps allow wildlife to make their way over the rip rap of the levee and access the riparian area along the river,” TCD said via press release.
