Skijoring event this weekend at the fairgrounds

JACKSON HOLE, WYO –The 2019 Jackson Hole Skijoring Event will take place this weekend at the Teton County Fairgrounds on Saturday and Sunday, January 12-13.

There will be various events and competitions throughout the weekend, with a registration party at Sidewinders Smokehouse and Tavern (945 W. Broadway) from 5-8pm. In addition, an online registration form is available.

Jackson Hole Skijoring is an event in which teams of riders, horses and skiers, will be traveling from states throughout the Rocky Mountain region to compete in what is bound to be an annual landmark and highly anticipated Jackson event. The race kicks off a larger national series of 10 races culminating in a national championship finals in West Yellowstone, Montana on March 9-10.

The 2019 event is being held at the Teton County Fairgrounds for the first time. The race stands to attract an impressive field of competitors from experienced teams vying for points to parents and their children giving skijoring a whirl.

The full weekend schedule is as follows:

  • Friday, January 11
  • Kick Off / Registration Party at Sidewinders Smokehouse & Tavern 945 W. Broadway from 5-8pm.
  • Saturday, January 12
  • Gates open at 11am. Races start at noon-3pm. Gates close at 3:30pm.
  • Event Party at The Hole Bowl 980 W. Broadway from 6pm to close.
  • Sunday, January 13
  • Gates open at 11am. Races start at noon-3pm. Gates close at 3:30pm.
  • Awards Party at The Virginian Lodge 750 W. Broadway at 6pm or earlier if possible.

The race will be run in the SkijorUSA-sanctioned 3D format. Race fees will be $100/team for a full weekend and $75 for a single day. There is also a Youth Division at $25 per team/day, paying day-money. All participants are welcome.

The track layout is a 650-foot gradual arc with a 450-foot straight run-out and continuing along another gentle arc. Horse stalls and competitor parking are located on the Fairgrounds. Stall fees are $20 night and access to the indoor warm-up arena will be available. On-site camping with hook-ups is also available for a fee.

This is a family-friendly event, with vendor tents, food and drinks. A $10 gate fee will be charged ($20 for families of 3 or more) and a portion of proceeds will benefit The Shrine Hospital for Children in Salt Lake City, Utah.
