JACKSON, Wyo. — Shh! It never gets noisy in the library, even on disco night.
In an effort to boost mental health, community members of all ages are invited to don headphones and dance to the beats of multiple DJs at a silent disco party next weekend at the Teton County Library.
The event will take place on Saturday, Sept. 10, from 6-9 p.m. under the evening sky in the Youth Wing Outdoor Area at the library.
The event is free, but tickets are required for entry and are available at the Jackson Main Library front desk.
A Silent Disco is an experience during which participants wear wireless headphones (provided by the Library) and choose from a variety of channels to listen to, each with its own DJ providing an audio broadcast. So you could be dancing to one channel, while your friend next to you could be dancing to different music on another channel. The music is heard only through the headphones, so the event is “silent” to anybody not wearing them.
“We were looking for a program to support the community’s mental health awareness initiatives,” says Anna Barker, Teton County Library Adult Services Librarian.
“This program is designed as an opportunity to gather and dance in an environment that isn’t centered around alcohol; we hope our guests will benefit from the physical and mental health boosts brought on by movement, music, and community building. And we couldn’t resist the connection between the word “silent” and the stereotype of libraries as quiet places.”
Music will be provided by Something Else DJs OhNassi, DJ Crayon, Hunter S and DJ Eski. Headphones will be limited by the number of people who claim tickets in advance of the event. No outside food or drink is allowed.
Because the silent disco takes place after Library open hours, guests can access the Youth Wing Outdoor Area through the gate at the south end of the Library on Virginian Lane (near the intersection of Virginian Lane and Snow King Avenue).
