JACKSON HOLE, WYO – Day 4 of a winter storm that began late Saturday and half of us are furiously digging out, running out of places to shovel it. The other half is grabbing the boards and heading for their powder pockets.

The third half (if you’ll excuse the Yogi-ism) is wondering if it’ll ever end. Forecasters now say by Friday, by the way.

First, and most importantly, the Bridger-Teton Avalanche Center raised the avalanche forecast to HIGH at all elevation in all area—Teton Range, Togwotee, and Greys River. Sliding will happen, Natural avalanches are very likely, human-caused slides are a virtual guarantee for the next few days.

The Center’s Snowpack Tracker has registered 45.5 inches at Rendezvous Bowl over the past three days. Raymer and mid-mountain snotels show similar numbers. That’s a lot in a hurry.

But not everyone got everything. In fact, it’s surprising to see who was hit and who wasn’t.

For instance, Alpine has been pounded with 17 inches through 3pm yesterday. In that same time period, just a 45-minute drive south, Afton registered less than a half-inch of snow. Pinedale got one inch, Bondurant more than 8.

START Bus has again cancelled commuter service today to and from Teton Valley due to the Pass being closed. WYDOT says Pass cleanup will take most of the day.
