JACKSON, Wyo. – Winter may not officially be upon us but it’s close enough for the county to remind anyone with plans to do some digging that they may want to make sure they are not violating regulations.
With the area already experiencing sub-zero temperatures and wintery conditions, the Teton County Engineering Division is reminding the public that permits for all small wastewater facilities—mainly private septic systems—carry with them a condition that installation is prohibited from November 15 through April 15.
However, due to the early onset of cold, it may also be a permit violation to install the system in inclement weather or freezing conditions. In fact, there is no assurance that a system can be installed up until the November 15 deadline.
Weather permitting and upon explicit approval requests by the Teton County Sanitarian, an extension to the November 15 deadline may be granted. Required repairs to failing systems may not be subject to the seasonal closure.
