WYOMING — Wyoming Senator Cynthia Lummis has been appointed to two subcommittees in the U.S Senate, as the ranking Republican member.
A ranking member is the highest-ranking, and usually longest-serving, a minority member of a committee and works to set committee priorities and agendas with the chairman who is the majority member.
“I’m honored to serve as the top Republican for two subcommittees right off the bat, particularly on issues with such importance to Wyoming,” said Sen. Lummis.
Sen. Lummis will serve as a ranking member on the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee’s Subcommittee on Fisheries, Water, and Wildlife. She will also serve as a ranking member on the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee’s Subcommittee on Space and Science.
Lummis released a statement about her leadership role on the two subcommittees. In terms of the Subcommittee on Fisheries, Water, and Wildlife. She said, “Wyoming has been working to conserve and protect its fish and wildlife since the 1860s, and I’m proud of how our state has managed the rebirth of its wildlife populations like the moose and grizzly. I look forward to bringing our knowledge of responsible and science-based conservation to the Fisheries, Water, and Wildlife Subcommittee.”
She also commented about her role on the Subcommittee on Space and Science. “Cheyenne is home to the National Science Foundation’s Computational and Information Systems Lab, a supercomputer helping to drive research into how our planet works. With a new computer coming this year, I’m excited to use my spot on the Space and Science Subcommittee to support the people of Cheyenne as they continue their mission,” said Lummis
Sen. Lummis was previously named to the Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee; as well as the Environment and Public Works Committee; and the Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee. With these leadership roles, Lummis is positioned to further her Bitcoin and cryptocurrency advocacy.
Sen. Lummis has been outspoken in her support of Bitcoin and cryptocurrency. She has owned shares of Bitcoin since 2013.
On Friday, Sen. Lummis joined in with other cryptocurrency investors on Twitter, photoshopping laser eyes on her Twitter profile picture. The trend on Twitter is a rallying call to help Bitcoin reach a price of $100,000. As of Feb. 23, one share of Bitcoin is worth $45,797.70 USD. She has since returned her Twitter profile picture to the original portrait.
Tesla owner Elon Musk recently purchased 1.5 billion dollars worth of Bitcoin. Following the announcement, Sen. Lummis has invited Musk to relocate to Wyoming via Twitter, saying, Hey @elonmusk, I hear Wyoming is one of the most business friendly states in the nation and has the best laws for digital assets in the US.
