JACKSON, Wyo. — The Scouting for Food annual food drive is returning this month. Hosted by One22 Resource Center, in partnership with the Grand Teton Council of Scouts of America, the fall food drive will benefit the Jackson Cupboard.
On Saturday, Oct. 18, starting at 9 a.m., over 75 volunteers will spread out across Jackson neighborhoods to collect nonperishable and unexpired food items left outside on doorsteps. Members of the community are encouraged to participate by placing donations in a box or grocery bag outside their doors.
Scouts and their leaders will check doorsteps in the following areas: Cottonwood Flats Townhomes, Cottonwood Park, Crabtree Lane, Creekside Townhomes, East Jackson areas, Elk Run Townhomes, Hidden Ranch, Josephine Loop, Melody Ranch, Mountain View Meadows, Rafter J and Sage Meadows.
“Scouting for Food is one of the most collaborative and fun events One22 participates in,” said One22’s Community Engagement Director Seadar Rose Davis. “It is a great way to fill the shelves of the Jackson Cupboard while also celebrating the long-standing history of an event that helped catapult our food assistance program.”
This year’s goal is to collect 5,000 pounds of food to provide meals to local families. The most-requested items this year include peanut butter, canned tuna, canned chicken and ground or instant coffee. People are asked not to donate anything in glass containers.
In 2024, the Jackson Cupboard distributed nearly 530,000 pounds of food to over 2,000 individuals. Community food drives account for 10 to 15% of the pantry’s distribution.
