JACKSON, Wyo. — Dua Lipa’s hit song, “Don’t Start Now,” was inspired by Disco Night at the Stagecoach Bar, according to a recently published article on RollingStone.com, by Brittany Spanos.
Spanos described how Songwriter Emily Warren, who lives in Jackson, brought fellow songwriters, Ian Kirkpatrick and Caroline Ailin to disco night one Thursday in 2019. Their experience inspired them to write “Don’t Start Now” and follow a disco theme for Lipa’s sophomore album, Future Nostalgia.
Warren told Spanos, “The next morning, we woke up, and were like, ‘We have to make a disco song. It’s the most fun to dance to.’”
Kirkpatrick is quoted in the article saying, “We were looking for a theme, which is not something that happens in albums these days,” adding “ I’m glad it took some time to settle the disco thing and the European house bass lines.”
“Don’t Start Now” was released in the fall of 2019 as the lead single for the album and hit number 3 on Rolling Stones Top 100 song chart.
