JACKSON, Wyo. — Put the floaties away, folks.
The aquatics center at the Teton County/Jackson Community Recreation Center is expected to close on Wednesday to allow for lap pool replastering. The lap pool is likely to be closed for six to eight weeks; the rest of the facility will reopen in phases after the initial demolition phase is complete. The splash pad is supposed to remain open throughout the construction period.
According to a Teton County staff report, crews will aim to follow this rough timeline:
- July 1 through July 14: Mobilization, demolition, tile installation, plaster installation. Full closure of all indoor aquatic facilities.
- For three to five weeks starting July 15: Pool fill, startup, chemical balancing and cure. Lap pool closed; other indoor aquatic facilities could reopen in phases.
Parks and Rec Operations Manager Liza Soto noted that construction projects sometimes require schedule adjustments due to unforeseen conditions during demolition and construction. Soto also acknowledged that some people purchase Rec Center passes primarily to use the lap pool.
“We’re happy to discuss options, such as extending memberships, on a case-by-case basis,” she said in an email to Buckrail. “Additionally, the other pools are expected to reopen before this project is complete, providing members with other opportunities to use the aquatic facilities.”
