TETON VILLAGE, Wyo. — A mystic, a poet, and ever-evolving multi-instrumentalist Rayland Baxter is one of those artists that could be labeled a great singer-songwriter, only to realize the depths of his releases contain more between the margins than folk, pop and Americana musings. The latter is especially true of his 2022 release If I Were a Butterfly, an expansion of sonic textures comparative to his previous four LPs with tinges of lush psychedelia and Beatles-esque pop. He’ll take stage with his band tonight (July 19) at the Mangy Moose.
Baxter, son of masterful pedal steel player, the late Bucky Baxter, rose to national attention with his 2012 debut on ATO Records, Feathers & FishHooks, an acoustic-steeped country-folk outing. Soon after, in 2013, Baxter supported Donavon Frankenreiter at Center Theater in Jackson as a solo act.
Opening the show is psychedelic folk rocker Liz Cooper and her band.
Ox Presents Rayland Baxter with guest Liz Cooper, 8 p.m. tonight July 19, at the Mangy Moose in Teton Village. $29. MangyMoose.com.
